BOVET continues horological traditions
One of the big guns of Haute Horlogerie, Pascal Raffy, Owner, Bovet 1822, attended Dubai Watch Week. “Day & Night Magazine” brings you excerpts from our interview with him
What is your opinion of Dubai Watch Week?
This is a forum where the watch industry and the art of watchmaking share views and opinions through interviews and discussions. The important thing to say here is a big “Thank You” to the Seddiqi family, who have organised this. I have the utmost respect for this initiative. I consider it my moral duty to support sincerity, transparency, tradition and values; my presence at the Dubai Watch Week is not a business decision but a moral one.
How did the Dubai Edition of 19Thirty come about?
The Dubai edition encapsulates the House of Bovet’s values of open-mindedness, respect for all cultures, and listening to your partner. It was fully Mr. Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi’s idea to create a Dubai edition. He wanted the Hindu-Arabic numerals, and we were happy as Arabic is the most beautiful and elegant language when it is written properly. The Dubai edition is the best of the House of Bovet and has cultural inputs by a person from the region. I was not surprised when they sold out before the launch because it was the Seddiqi family promoting it.
Can you tell us about Récital 18 The Shooting Star and why is it different from a Bovet watch?
The timepiece is evocative of Edouard Bovet, who left his home to first travel to London and then China. It is a visionary timepiece that manages to keep and respect the values and traditions of the Maison. This is a unique edition limited to 50 movements; it is not a limited edition watch, but the movement itself which is limited here.
