The Gentleman’s Evening at Annabel’s in Cannes
For the third year, Chopard and the world-famous London nightclub Annabel’s co-hosted an exclusive evening pervaded by a decidedly British and extremely gentlemanly atmosphere at the Chopard Rooftop.
This elegant evening held on the rooftop of the Hotel Martinez was attended by Chopard co-presidents Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, as well as a number of well-known figures including Colin Farrell, Will Smith, Marion Cotillard, Christoph Waltz, Tatiana Navka, Jacky Ickx, Tina Kunakey, Lui Wen, Brendon Hartley, Eddy Merckx, Phoebe Dahl and Veronika Heilbrunner.
Chopard SPACE soirée
Each year, the Chopard soirée is one of the hottest tickets during the Cannes fortnight. Amid a supercharged atmosphere at Port Pierre Canto, Bruno Mars electrified the 600 or so guests who attended the SPACE evening event, which included superstar Rihanna.
It was at Port Canto, on the Croisette, which was decked out in a futuristic decor specially designed and built for the occasion, that Chopard invited its guests. Julianne Moore, Will Smith, Isabelle Huppert, Eva Herzigova, Rossy de Palma, Paz Vega, Clotilde Courau, Araya Hargate, Kendall Jenner, Sara Sampaio, Tina Kunakey, Phoebe Dahl, Bella Hadid, Thylane Blondeau, and Latifa Arfaoui were in attendance. Everyone had honoured the “Galactic with a touch of diamond!” dress code.
During the course of the dinner, served in a space shuttle, fashion models paraded past, adorned in the latest Red Carpet creations from Chopard and wearing clothes by Elie Saab, before being joined for the grand finale by super models Arizona Muse, Winnie Harlow, Isabeli Fontana, and Petra Nemcova. Guests then found themselves teleported into space. Upon their arrival, they were welcomed by Cathy Guetta, queen of Paris and Ibiza night life, enlisted by Caroline Scheufele to guarantee a memorable experience. Beneath a heavenly canopy studded with thousands of stars, a laser-lit dance floor featuring overhead space shuttles awaited guests. Extra-terrestrial creatures strolled nonchalantly around within this futuristic ambience, while fashion models perched on luminous cubes forming living tableaus and dancers livened up the dance floor, inviting guests to join them.
The highlight of the evening was the unique moment that Bruno Mars shared with Chopard and its guests. A brilliant natural performer, he was accompanied by a DJ and set the Chopard SPACE evening on fire by singing “Treasure”, “That’s what I like”, “Chunky”, and “Locked out of Heaven”. Pop superstar Rihanna – who had marked her first-ever appearance at the Cannes Festival by climbing the steps earlier that evening adorned in creations from the Rihanna ♥ Chopard collection, designed in co-operation with Caroline Scheufele – graced the soirée.
Trophée Chopard 2017
Anya Taylor-Joy and George MacKay are the laureates of this new edition of the Trophée Chopard, created 17 years ago by Caroline Scheufele – the co-president of the Geneva-based Maison who is passionate about film-making – to reward upcoming talents of world cinema. They were handed their awards by Charlize Theron at a ceremony that took place on the Chopard Rooftop at the Martinez Hotel on May 22, 2017.
Chopard has been partnering the Cannes Festival since 1998, and in 2001, Chopard created the Trophée Chopard intended as an annual occasion to honour a young actress and a young actor in the making. From Audrey Tautou to Léa Seydoux and from Marion Cotillard to Jack O’Connell, Chopard has always shown a flair for detecting the most promising talents.
For its 17th edition, the Trophées, awarded in partnership with “Variety” magazine, and with the support of the Festival President Pierre Lescure and Festival Director Thierry Frémaux, were chosen by a jury of professionals composed of actress Salma Hayek, American film producer Lori McCreary, and Australian director Garth Davis, along with Caroline Scheufele and Steven Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety.
The jury decided to reward American-born actress Anya Taylor-Joy, notably seen in “The Witch” and “Split”, and English actor George MacKay, who caught the limelight in “Pride” and “Captain Fantastic”.
After the award ceremony, Caroline Scheufele honoured the delighted laureates with an exclusive evening hosting the finest names in the film industry, including Marion Cotillard, winner of the Trophée in 2004, along with Colin Firth, Juliette Binoche, Stacy Martin, Andie MacDowell, Aymeline Valade, KouKa, Izabel Goulart, Kevin Trapp, and Tatiana Navka.
This star-studded array of guests enjoyed a dinner held in a refined ambience, while enjoying spectacular views over Cannes and its famous Croisette. The wonderful singer Whinnie Williams gave a private concert that charmed all those who witnessed it. Afterwards, guests were treated to an eclectic set by DJ Nathalie Duchene until the early morning.
