Montblanc paves the way for wearable technology
Montblanc e-Strap smartwatch
This January, the centuries’ old Swiss horological tradition will have been broken by the luxury Maison, Montblanc who are incorporating wearable technology with the art of fine watchmaking
With the rise of smartphones, many horologists have speculated about the time when their wristwatches would be able to perform the functions of a smartphone.
Well, thanks to Montblanc, the wait is finally over.
With the launch of Montblanc’s TimeWalker Urban Speed e-Strap, it is now possible to connect your timepiece via Bluetooth Low Energy to your Android or iOS smartphone.
The interchangeable e-strap comes with an integrated technology device that offers a range of functionalities such as an activity tracker, smart notifications, remote controls for the smartphone and a Find-Me function, which allows a range of up to 30 meters.
The e-Strap device has an inbuilt touch screen display, readable in daylight, to display information and navigate through the functionalities.
The technical device is encapsulated in a stainless steel case with rubber protection and can be adjusted with the pass-through strap to fit your wrist.
And if all that wasn’t enough, the device only needs to be recharged every five days using a standard micro-USB cable.
In more exciting news, the TimeWalker collection welcomes three new models; a chronograph, a UTC with a second time zone and a three hands watch with the essential functionality of hours, minutes, seconds and date.
Created with contemporary materials, the e-Strap will be available for purchase in June 2015, sold with or without the TimeWalker timepieces.
