OMEGA unveils Seamaster in anticipation of 35th America’s Cup
OMEGA is proud of its partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand, which first began with Sir Peter Blake’s American’s Cup campaign in 1995 and still continues up until the present day
The 35th America’s Cup is due to be held in June 2017, where a challenge between the winner of the 2017 Louis Vuitton Cup and the Oracle Team USA will take place. It will be Oracle’s second defence of the America’s Cup, four years after its first successful defence. In anticipation of this sailing competition, OMEGA has unveiled a sporty timepiece that commemorates the brand’s support of the yachtsmen of Emirates Team New Zealand.
The new Seamaster Diver 300M ETNZ boldly celebrates the brand’s relationship with the renowned sailing team with its black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, which features a polished diving scale whose indications have been created in relief using laser ablation. At the top of the bezel, positioned at 12 o’clock is a small white dot which is coated with white Super-LumiNova and emits a green light when reading conditions are dim.
The sand-blasted grade 5 titanium dial bears applied indexes, which are also coated with white Super-LumiNova that emits a blue light instead of the standard green hue. A silvery chronograph seconds track can be found on the outer edge of the dial, whilst inside this ring is a matt titanium minute track. But it is the centre of the dial that demands further scrutiny, for three smaller sub-dials appear indicating various data: the second’s sub-dial appears at 9 o’clock, whilst a 12-hour recorder is positioned at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute recorder is at 3 o’clock, which also indicates the five-minute countdown to the start of a regatta. The 44mm brushed grade 5 titanium case has two pushers; one at 2 o’clock and the other at 4 o’clock that stand out with a red aluminium ring and matt black ceramic ring respectively. In fact, all of the elements that correspond to a chronograph function are coloured in red. There is also a helium escape valve with an integrated date corrector at 10 o’clock on the case.
The Seamaster Diver 300M ETNZ is presented on a rubber strap with a fold-over clasp. The top part of the strap is black and has a subtle ribbed pattern, while the underside of the strap is red and features a design that is reminiscent of the sails on the team’s boat. This pattern ensures that water and air can pass freely underneath allowing the skin to breath. Embossed on the screw-in case back is the ETNZ logo – a special detail that establishes this timepiece’s connection to the world of sailing and underscores OMEGA’s support of the remarkable team. Protected by the case back is the Co-Axial calibre 3330, a chronograph movement complete with a Si14 silicon balance spring.
