Traditions of Breguet
No name in the industry is more synonymous innovative horological progress than that of Breguet. The brand and business traces its roots to 1775, when it was founded by the most prominent watchmaking trailblazer, Abraham Louis Breguet, who made an imprint on history with such inventions as the pare-chute shock protection, the raised terminal curve (overcoil) of the balance-spring that takes his name
The Swatch Group acquired Breguet in 1999, and today continues the mould-breaking technical development and aesthetic prowess for which the brand has always been renowned. Breguet’s unwavering watchmaking prestige is further reinforced by its marvellous 2015 novelties:
Tradition Répétition Minutes Tourbillon 7087
An original approach was taken for this extraordinary chiming watch, involving revolutionising sound perception by modern harmonies and tuning, followed by the construction of the timepiece to reproduce the sound mechanically. Remarkably, this timepiece has hammers that strike vertically from the movement towards the bezel, efficiently transforming mechanical vibrations into sound waves. This feature entailed a supplementary, now patented, innovation: a semi-active buffer. Also available in white gold.
Tradition Chronographe Indépendant 7077
Fitted with two independent trains, one for the hours and minutes and another for the chronograph, this new model alleviates the issue of an activated chronograph function disturbing the main gear trains. The new flexed blade spring, perfectly suited to the chronograph function is also introduced in this model, providing the energy required to drive the chronograph when operating the reset-to-zero function. Also available in rose gold.
Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde 7097
Paying tribute to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s “subscription” and tact watches, this timepiece reveals the bridges, wheels, escapement, barrel and other components of the movement, usually hidden beneath the baseplate. The new model gets its name from the retrograde seconds hand at 10 o'clock, which supplements the hours and minutes. The complication is exhibited by a circular-brushed semi-circle that also makes the other indications easy to read. Also available in rose gold.
Reine De Naples Princesse Mini 9807 & 9808
This year the iconic collection welcomes two new fascinating feminine models, measuring 32.7 x 27.3mm. The first is composed of a steel case, houses a self-winding movement and features a domed white natural mother-of-pearl dial, with hour markers presented in mother-of-pearl marquetry. The second has the same movement, but it is composed of rose gold and boasts a Tahitian mother-of-pearl domed dial; the spherical attachment of the rose gold version’s strap is set with diamonds while the crown includes a briolette diamond.
Reine De Naples Haute Joaillerie 8909
Remaking a former favourite in rose gold, with warm hues decorating the iconic shape of the case and the exquisite gem-set bracelet. High clarity diamonds sparkle on the bezel, caseband, and bracelet, which is also dotted with flaming red rubies. The baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel frames Tahitian mother-of-pearl and a dial set with diamonds. The aperture for the moon can be seen at 12 o'clock with the power-reserve indicator. The diamonds in this jewellery watch total around 16 carats.
Rêve De Plume Haute Joaillerie
In rose or white gold, this timepiece displays the sculpture of a feather, for which Breguet’s artisans incorporated diamonds of different sizes to represent every part of. The white mother-of-pearl dial features a new engine-turned pattern, which is again evocative of the delicate vanes of the feather. The sides of the watch are also finely engraved with feathers. Diamonds weighing more than 4 carats adorn this watch, equipped with a self-winding movement with a silicon balance-spring.
Marine Chronographe “200 Ans De Marine” 5823
Marking the bicentenary of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s appointment as chronometer-maker to the French Royal Navy, the Manufacture has introduced this exclusive chronograph, boasting a platinum case and self-winding movement. Furthermore, its hand-guilloché gold oscillating weight features a two-tone black and rhodiumed exterior. The chronograph seconds and minutes hands are at the centre of the dial, and the watch is additionally equipped with two sub-dials, for the running seconds and the chronograph hours counter.
