Haute horlogerie and joaillerie marque Harry Winston recently unveiled its horological 2021 novelties – the Ocean collection. “Day & Night” magazine invites you to have a look at these visually stunning treats…which are also horological masterpieces

Ocean Biretrograde Yellow Automatic 36mm
Ocean Biretrograde Orange Automatic 36mm
Lemony yellow sapphires and juicy orange spessartites bathe the new Ocean Biretrograde models with positive energy. The white mother-of-pearl dial provides a soothing, iridescent background to the eye-catching arrangement of complications and coloured stone setting on the dial. Ribbons of 58 brilliant-cut diamonds and 109 brilliant-cut yellow sapphires or orange spessartites swirl graciously around the dial embracing the different functions. The excentred hour and minutes counter at noon is framed by a ring of yellow sapphires or orange spessartites and crowned by an emerald-cut diamond. To enhance legibility, the hour indexes are applied to the mother-of-pearl dial and faceted.

The intensely saturated stones trace two semi-circles around the retrograde days of the week and the retrograde small seconds in the lower half of the dial. The allure of the display is that the hands corresponding to the days and seconds advance in opposite directions. Encircled by a colourful ring, the date window at 6 o’clock has a magnifying lens.

The asymmetrical case is of 18-karat white gold, set with 41 brilliant-cut yellow sapphires or orange spessartites on the bezel and 16 brilliant-cut diamonds on the lugs. The 36mm watch has a water-resistance to 100 meters, and enjoys a 65-hour power reserve. A transparent sapphire crystal caseback reveals a high-end Swiss automatic movement with an 18-karat white gold skeletonised rotor adorned with 23 brilliant-cut yellow sapphires or orange spessartites. The Ocean Biretrograde with orange spessartites has a pearly orange alligator leather strap; the model with yellow sapphires is offered on a pearly yellow alligator leather strap, both with a white gold ardillon buckle sublimated with 42 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Zalium Variation Yellow
Zalium Variation Orange
For its 2021 Ocean Collection, Harry Winston revisits the formidable Project Z10 inspired by the majestic architecture of the Manhattan Bridge. Inspired by its silhouette, the two new Zalium Variation reveal a unique and openworked design with black sandblasted bridges that traverse their dials. Used on all timepieces in the Project Z series, Harry Winston has developed Zalium, a revolutionary zirconium-based alloy that is ultra-lightweight and incredibly resistant to corrosion. The new Zalium Variation has a 42.2mm satin-brushed Zalium case water-resistant to 100 meters.

The new models’ excentred dials feature black with bursts of bright orange or yellow and a black grid structure. The applied indexes, the hours and minutes hands, and even the 18-karat gold Harry Winston emerald applique at noon are luminescent. To display the retrograde functions, the Zalium Variation relies on two black arches spanning the lower part of the dial. The days counter is on the right while on left, the seconds counter appears to be suspended above the gears that directs it. The borders of the two arches, the hands, the 30-second marker and the ‘S’ corresponding to Sunday are highlighted in orange or yellow. Two crossed bridges at 6 o’clock suspend the round aperture for the date window, underscored with an eye-catching yellow or orange arrow.

The sapphire crystal case back reveals the high-end Swiss mechanical calibre HW3305, an automatic movement with 312 components, wound by an 18-karat white gold openworked rotor offering a 65-hour power reserve. The Zalium Variation is presented with matching yellow or orange alligator leather straps with a black rubber base and a Zalium ardillon buckle with a folding safety clasp.

Project Z15
Inspired by regulator clocks, a large and partially skeletonised hand with blue and red extremities marks the passing minutes on the blue counter on Project Z15’s dial. The openworked bridges traversing the dial support two sub-dials corresponding to the hours and retrograde seconds, as well as the three hands of the minutes, hours and seconds. Legibility is assured with luminescent treatment of the hour indexes and hand, the gold Harry Winston applique at noon, the minutes hand and the twelve semi-hexagonal structures jutting from the minutes track. The seconds are displayed in retrograde fashion and placed on a blue semi-hexagonal structure with white markers. Once the red hand reaches the 30, it performs a retrograde jump back to zero.

Launched in 2004, all Project Z timepieces are crafted in Zalium. The 42.2mm grey Zalium case displays a sporty satin finish with Harry Winston arches guarding the crown. The Project Z15 is designed for everyday wear and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The sapphire crystal case back offers a view of the Swiss automatic calibre HW3207. Fitted with 226 components and 34 jewels, the movement beats at 4Hz and offers a robust 65-hour power reserve. The timepiece is presented on a sporty black rubber textile-effect strap with a central blue band and attached to the wrist with a Zalium folding security clasp.
