Van Cleef & Arpels announce finalists for Artist Prize
In collaboration with Tashkeel and Design Days Dubai, the luxury jewellery Maison, Van Cleef & Arpels announced the lucky finalists in the run up to the Middle East Emergent Artist Prize 2015
On January 13th, 2015, an exciting in-store event took place to celebrate up-and-coming artists. The Van Cleef & Arpels boutique at Dubai Mall welcomed select media to an exclusive press conference to announce the finalists. The emerging artists explored the dynamics between natural and industrial elements to create pieces that took form, function and aesthetics into the equation.
The shortlisted four finalists were chosen from over seventy applicants from across the GCC. The finalists include: Italian, Ivan Parati, a Dubai-based Science and Technology teacher, who presented the ‘TileTable’, a modular coffee table with traditional Islamic elements; Kuwaiti interior designer Loulwa Al Radwan, who submitted an ‘Al Sadu’ inspired concept for a wall hanging piece; a collective submission from the UAE by Merehan Kika, Maryam Sherif and Sultan Alqasimi produced renderings of the idea ‘Luminous Waves’, a set of organic and flexible wooden light installations that play with shadows; and Jordanian interior designer Renad Hussein, who submitted the ‘Hourglass Floorlamp’, made of glass and adorned with an intricate Islamic pattern.
The winning artwork will be unveiled at the Van Cleef & Arpels stand during Design Days Dubai, in March, where the winner will be the recipient of AED 30,000 to fund the making of their final product, as well as a seven day trip to Paris where personal tuition will be provided by the artisans of Van Cleef & Arpels.
