Magnificent Perpetual Moons peep out from Arnold & Son

The moon has always fascinated mankind, and Arnold & Son is no exception. The marque has created two magnificent Perpetual Moons to add to its highly creative moon phase collection. In a first for the maison, the Perpetual Moon 38 Eclipse I, which portrays a moon in chiaroscuro, ushers in a new chapter for women as it has been designed, created, embellished and powered for women

Perpetual Moon 41.5
Perpetual Moon 41.5 is presented in red gold and platinum, with its dial featuring Stellar Rays motif. While the Red Gold joins the permanent collection, the platinum version is a 28-piece limited edition. The cases have been redesigned, with simplified lugs. The case is now reduced to 41.5 mm without affecting the size of the dial, with only the bezel width reduced.

The dials present Stellar Rays, a unique finish obtained through skilfully irregular engraving. Several depths and widths of rays coexist, each generating a fluctuating interplay of light and depth obtained by applying several layers of transparent lacquer. The Red Gold version is combined with a dense, deep blue adorned with gold edging on the moon aperture, together with golden hands and hour markers. The Platinum edition is coupled with a salmon pink, which complements the rhodium-plated details on the dial. The large moon – enhanced with a luminescent material particularly intense in darkness yet invisible in daylight – is set against a blue PVD-treated grained sky and is surrounded by hand-painted and Super-LumiNova-coated Big Dipper and Cassiopeia constellations chosen to reference John Arnold’s history as a maker of naval chronometers.

On the case back, a secondary indicator allows the moon phase to be adjusted quickly and precisely. The hand-wound calibre reference A&S1512, if regularly wound, would take 122 years to accumulate a day’s difference. Like all Arnold & Son movements, the A&S1512 calibre has been entirely developed and created in-house. The calibre features two barrels and an oscillation frequency of 3 Hz, providing a power reserve of 90 hours.

Perpetual Moon 38 Eclipse I
Arnold & Son is offering its first watch designed, created, embellished, and powered for women. The 38 mm diameter case is 10.44 mm thick and crafted from white gold. Its bezel, four horns, and crown host a total of 90 brilliant-cut diamonds. The dial of the Perpetual Moon 38 Eclipse I is composed of a fine layer of blue aventurine crystal, featuring lace-like cut-outs through which the large moon disc can be glimpsed. The starry sky is made of mother-of-pearl in a graduation of shades from blue to white. The two lunar discs are depicted by ruthenium crystals. Between them, the constellations have been painted by hand.

At 8 o’clock, the main motif of the timepiece scintillates with precious stones. The cut-outs adorning the lace-like aventurine backdrop have been encrusted with white and blue mother-of-pearl fragments, diamonds, and blue and pink sapphires, all cut to form a large star complete with glistening halo. The manufacture has created a new calibre – the A&S1612, its smallest at 30 mm. This manually wound movement enjoys a 90-hour power reserve. The emblematic complication of the A&S1612 calibre is its moon-phase indicator. Drawing on its ingenious large-moon principle, Arnold & Son has naturally incorporated a majestic lunar disc into this timepiece. Its various crescents fill the large aperture located between 10 and 2 o’clock. When kept constantly wound, the watch is accurate for 122 years.
