Dior adds to Archi Dior collection
This year, the Archi Dior jewellery collection is enriched with eight new pieces, three of which were inspired by the famous Bar suit. First presented in 1947, with a pleated skirt cut from four meters of black wool and a natural shantung jacket with soft curves and a peplum emphasising a wasp waist, the sculptural design became emblematic of the Dior look
On February 12, 1947, the Paris elite and the most influential personalities in the fashion world flocked to 30 Avenue Montaigne to discover the very first collection by the House of Dior. The New Look was born; its dresses and architectural suits becoming the emblem of a unique and rare savoir-faire – that of Dior’s haute couture Ateliers in Paris.
Since 2014, Victoire de Castellane, Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie, has paid tribute to these creations through her Archi Dior collection. Her idea was to sketch and reinterpret in metal the most difficult elements of these Dior dresses, such as the ruffles and the pleats. Things that are obvious when drawn or composed in fabric become a challenge when applied to jewellery.
In 2022, its jewellery incarnation, Bar en corolle, featuring a white gold ruffle and a diamond belt, appears as a luminous necklace and bracelet. To complete the parure, fan-shaped earrings are set with a pear-cut diamond that may also be worn as a simple stud.
In its autumn-winter 1947 fashion show, the Aladin dress, with its short sleeves decorated with bows, caused a sensation. Victoire de Castellane celebrates it today with the ultra-contemporary Diorama earring. Designed with a movement specific to either the right or left ear, the jewel is placed high on the ear, allowing a glittering ribbon to unfurl, illuminating the silhouette.
Entitled Milieu du siècle, the autumn-winter 1949 collection, with its cuts based on the geometry of the fabric, confirmed Monsieur Dior’s architectural prowess. The Juno dress, its petal skirt embroidered with pearls and sequins evoking a dragonfly’s wing, is a marvellous illustration. This year, the line gives rise to three new Archi Dior Milieu du siècle creations. The necklace and bracelet, their irregular links sparkling with brilliant-cut diamonds, feature an oval diamond centre stone, while the earrings comprise four fully pavé rings, also crowned with an oval diamond.
