The Tonda PF collection ushered in the brand’s return to the forefront of fine watchmaking in 2021. The three founding models – Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, Tonda PF Chronograph, and Tonda PF Annual Calendar – initially outfitted in 18ct rose gold cases and matching gold bracelets are now adorned with alligator straps
The straps fasten securely to the wrist with a new, asymmetrical triple-blade buckle, opened by two external pushers, to ensure exceptional wearing comfort. The buckle’s minimalist design is highlighted by a PF logo in relief, a subtle yet powerful identity signature.
This evolution of the Tonda PF collection serves to profoundly redefine its perspective and its perception, bringing the models into a warmer and dressier arena, suitable for understated evening wear and moments of relaxed elegance. The new straps, seamlessly integrated into the design of the cases, offer sober colours that are faithful to the spirit of the brand – Grey, Milan Blue, and Brown – which also echo the colour palettes of the dials.
Tonda PF Micro-Rotor
With its meticulous array of details, patterns, shapes, and curves, the Tonda PF demonstrates a highly honed sense of savoir-faire in both technical complication and aesthetic refinement. Its 18ct rose gold case is now mounted on a brown alligator leather strap that harmonises with the grey colour of the dial, adorned with a Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern. The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor adheres to one simple rule: only the essential can be revealed.
This motto underpins the model’s renewed identity, speaking to its ability to show a radically different face to the world while maintaining the fundamental values and attributes that make the model so special. This timepiece is designed and envisioned to provide an intimate and personal experience for its wearer, and only its wearer.
The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor radiates an imperceptible refinement, as embodied in its in-house movement, the ultra-thin, 3mm Caliber PF703, with automatic winding powered by a platinum micro-rotor. The combination of colours chosen for the dial and the alligator leather strap testify to the brand’s taste for contemporary classicism. Identical in every important aspect to the Tonda PF launched in September 2021, and yet undeniably different and individualistic in substantial ways, the new model is rich in its minimalism and definitive in its emblematic luxury.
Tonda PF Chronograph
The Tonda PF Chronograph combines a popular high complication with a design architecture of understated elegance, an exercise in style that is very challenging. The model is a precision machine: Its integrated manufacture Caliber PF070 beats at a high frequency, 5 Hz; incorporates a column wheel; and displays the classic indications of small seconds, minutes, and hours. The back of the watch reveals the movement and its openworked oscillating weight in 22ct rose gold, adorned with the floating PF logo.
Arranged on the surface of the new Milan Blue dial, with its signature Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern, are the three subdial counters whose railroad-style borders have a fine, smoothly sandblasted circular finish; the deeper blue of these framed sub-dials helps facilitate the reading of elapsed times. A technical and sporty piece par excellence, the Tonda PF chronograph retains a refined elegance thanks to the masterful volumes and proportions in its integrated overall aesthetic.
The pushers serve as a natural extension of the horns, which flow naturally into the Milano Blue alligator leather strap for an elegant extension of the rose gold case.
Tonda PF Annual Calendar
Man has long sought to master the course of time and solve its mysteries. The measurement of time is as old as the cultures and civilisations that have shaped human history, and the highest levels of watchmaking have been devoted to this quest. Parmigiani Fleurier demonstrated its own expertise in this ancient craft with the Tonda PF Annual Calendar, now outfitted with a brown alligator leather strap to accessorise with the deep gray dial — a subtle chromatic combination for a watch that is just as elegant in its 18ct rose gold iteration.
The sophisticated mechanism inside the Tonda PF Annual Calendar must deliver a plethora of complex information while always meeting the requirements of clarity and readability that are traditionally imposed on an Annual Calendar. The balanced layout of the Grain d’Orge guilloché dial embodies subtlety of design while also demonstrating a clear devotion to legibility of its various displays.
The 42mm case houses one of the most poetic complications in Haute Horlogerie. The Caliber PF339 displays a retrograde date, day, and month, along with a moon-phase with a precision of 122 years in both hemispheres. These functions complement the traditional indication of the hour, minute, and seconds, comprising an amalgam of temporal, astronomical, and calendar information that nevertheless adheres to the aesthetic purity that Parmigiani Fleurier has demanded for this champion of the mastery of time.
