Montblanc and Ferrari team up to introduce the latest collectible co-created with Ferrari Design, paying homage to the marque’s new model in the Icona range: the Ferrari Daytona SP3
Co-designed under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari Chief Design Officer, the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 Limited Edition 599 leans into the unmistakable Ferrari style lexicon to create a new shape of Montblanc writing instrument. The writing instrument pays homage to the design DNA that makes every Ferrari car recognisable – the architecture and proportions, the surfaces, volumes and aerodynamics. This DNA is also known as a stilema, referring to the instantly recognisable element in a design that reveals its identity and creator.
The Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 expresses the car’s fluid shape through the use of a single material for the cap and barrel: light titanium, rarely seen in Montblanc writing instruments. The angle of the cap top mimics the way the Ferrari Daytona SP3’s nose slices through the air, while the lined accents on the forepart and barrel are derived from the blades on the car’s bumpers, where lines create a visual game of light and dark with bars that seem to disappear.
While the outside design is distinctly Ferrari, the ‘engine’ of the pen is assuredly Montblanc. The heart of the Ferrari Daytona SP3 is its growling V12 engine; in the writing instrument, a handcrafted Au 750 solid white gold nib and hidden filling mechanism drive a different kind of petrol through its veins – ink.
Inspired by the Ferrari Design engineering vision, the ink filling mechanism in the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 has been structured in a way that is new to Montblanc’s repertoire, complimenting the writing instrument’s sleek silhouette. The ink-filling mechanism is hidden beneath a red, semi-transparent blade slashing through the titanium barrel. Crafted in solid white gold for this edition, the mechanism can only be revealed by pulling the blade back. Once the tank is full of ink and the blade locked back in place, the writing instrument is ready to write.
The solid Au750 white gold nib features a special “SP3” engraving, and the iconic Ferrari Prancing Horse is also lasered on the cap. The Montblanc emblem that sits per tradition on the cap top is similarly crafted of solid Au750 white gold. Limited to just 599 pieces worldwide, the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 is offered by special arrangement and on a limited basis. For further information, visit www.montblanc.com
