Chopard’s tribute to the Palme d’Or

Inspired by the design of the famous Palme d’Or award only presented at the Cannes Film Festival, the House of Chopard has launched a contemporary jewellery line crafted in ethical gold. Stylish and fresh, refined and sustainable, the Palme Verte collection is a selection of precious accessories that stands to become a legendary icon for the luxury brand

In 1998, the President of the Cannes Film Festival assigned Chopard to redesign the Palme d’Or Award, bringing it into the modern era.  Artistic Director and Co-President of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele, rose to the challenge and lent her unique touch to the magic of the legendary symbol, which gave rise to the new technical and stylistic interpretation of the previous Palme d’Or.  It was in 2014 that a substantial change took place; driven by her unceasing commitment to sustainable luxury, Caroline Scheufele decided to make the Palme d’Or a new symbol of the values that are so dear to her heart. Since then, the Palme d’Or has been made entirely in Fairmined gold – a label guaranteeing that it is produced with due respect for social, environmental and ethical standards, right from the very beginning of the supply chain.

The campaign for ethical gold was launched in partnership with Eco-Age, where the precious raw material is extracted by artisanal and small-scale miners certified under the Fairmined standard created by the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM). By purchasing ethical metals, owners of such jewels can rest assured that every possible step has been taken to ensure certified miners and their families are well protected in terms of social development, environmental protection, labour conditions and economic development in mining communities.

In honour of the acclaimed trophy’s 60th anniversary, Chopard has taken inspiration from the 2014 re-invented edition and unveiled the Palme Verte collection, which is also crafted from 18ct Fairmined yellow gold and is designed in the same style as the sought after award, with long tapered leaves that branch away from the stem. The new collection is large part of Chopard’s commitment to sustainable luxury and solidifies the status of the brand as Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival.

The collection features several creations, ranging from Haute Joaillerie to dainty, restrained jewellery pieces. Because exceptional things can also be found in everyday life, Chopard has designed a collection that was inspired by the design of the Palme and that is quite naturally suited for daily wear. The remarkably smooth design radiates the beauty of self-evident simplicity without the need for coloured stones to take the attention away from the polished surface of the metal. Available in this line are earrings, a pendant, a ring and a bracelet that have been unveiled in the wake of the Green Carpet Collection that also features items crafted from Fairmined gold.

Simply defined as a must-have collection, Chopard’s Palme Verte line symbolises a quintessential object of desire whilst lending a precious touch of refinement to a simple outfit or a dash of sophistication on a big night out. These light, intimate items of jewellery are so pleasant to wear that a woman will naturally wish to keep them on permanently in order both to enhance her appearance and to marry ethics with aesthetics.
