Panerai offers new Submersible Luna Rossa editions

Panerai’s journey with the America’s Cup began in 2017, when Panerai stepped into the sailing sport elite and became an Official Partner of the prestigious sailing competition and the sponsor of the Oracle Team USA and Softbank Team Japan. Becoming the Official Sponsor of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli for the first time in 2019, it was during the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada – held in the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland in 2021 – that Panerai culminated its nautical ties with the sailing team. In 2024, Panerai has brought out new editions of the Submersible Luna Rossi that include a GMT, an e-commerce exclusive and two new editions in a new material – Ti-Ceramitech

Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio
The Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio PAM1507 features the new Super-LumiNova X2 on indices and hour hand, ensuring a luminosity 10% higher than its predecessor after 180 minutes in the dark. The timepiece features a 42mm case of Grade 5 titanium and is water resistant up to 50 bar. At the heart of PAM1507 is the automatic P.900/GMT movement, a calibre with a 3-day power reserve. The P.900 is an automatic calibre that integrates expansive function within the confines of remarkably streamlined proportions – of 28mm in diameter and only 4.2 mm thick. Its balance wheel, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, is securely fixed in position by a balance cock, and is equipped with a stop-second function. Its GMT complication with a 24-hour display echoes some of the earliest models developed in the early 2000s.

The GMT hand, inspired by the sails of the Luna Rossa sailing team, is matched with a blue sun-brushed dial and flange bearing a decal of the Luna Rossa sail. The watch features a unidirectional rotating titanium bezel with a blue matt ceramic disk known for its high resistance to scratches. The indices and the hour hand are accented with green lacquer that evokes the luminescent vibrancy of Super-LumiNova X2, while Super-LumiNova X-1 illuminates the blue-accented minute hands and dots on the bezel. The watch comes with two strap options: a bi-material strap featuring a striking red stripe with the words Luna Rossa in white against a blue backdrop, and a second rubber strap in a uniform blue tone.

Submersible Luna Rossa
The Submersible Luna Rossa PAM01565  is an e-commerce exclusive available in a limited edition of 300 pieces. Encased in a 42mm brushed steel case, the watch boasts a unidirectional rotating steel bezel with a black matt ceramic disk, chosen for its notably higher resistance to scratches. The bezel rotates only counterclockwise, allowing for the calculation of immersion time – a crucial feature for an underwater instrument. Water-resistant up to 30 bar, the watch is powered by the automatic P.900 movement, renowned for its reliability with a 3-day power reserve.

The blue sun-brushed dial with a black gradient finish evokes the ocean. The dial is adorned with the decal of Luna Rossa, while luminous dot and baton hour markers, along with a date window at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, enhance readability against the backdrop. The hands are treated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring visibility in all conditions, and the small red second hands echo the watch’s connection to sailing. The screwed caseback, which helps to ensure the watch’s high degree of water resistance is engraved with the image of a Slow Speed Torpedo, the notorious “pig” on which the commandos of the Italian Navy sailed on their missions while wearing instruments made by Panerai, in the 1940s. The first bi-material strap is a nod to the Luna Rossa with its grey tone and striking red accents, while the second dark blue rubber strap offers a more subdued option.

Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech
The 44mm Ti-Ceramitech case is inspired by a material and process originally used in high-performance competitive environments. The process of ceramisation of steel parts to significantly reduce friction, enhances the efficiency and speed of racing boats and was a source of inspiration for Panerai. At the heart of these two editions is the automatic P.900 – a calibre renowned for its reliability with a 3-day power reserve – that integrates expansive function within the confines of remarkably streamlined proportions of 28mm diameter and 4.2 mm thickness. The energy necessary to accumulate a power reserve of three days is delivered by a bidirectional oscillating weight and stored in a single barrel. Its balance wheel, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, is securely fixed in position by a balance cock. The calibre is equipped with a stop-second function that enables precise time setting.

For the bezel, machined titanium is ceramised and then meticulously reworked to reveal the metal beneath at strategic points, creating an eye-catching contrast of materials, punctuating the crown and its protecting lever, the edge and indexes of the bezel, the back-case, and the trapezoidal pin buckle. The blue shade resulting from ceramisation prompted the development of a bespoke colour for the accompanying straps. The timepieces are water-resistant up to 50 bar.

PAM01466’s aesthetic evokes the spirit of the sea with its blue sun-brushed dial, while PAM01543 is resplendent with a white-matt grained dial, both accented with a decal of Luna Rossa and small red second hands, a subtle nod to the sailing team’s vivid identity. The date window stands at 3 o’clock while a discreet seconds subdial rests at 9 o’clock, surrounded by luminous hands and hour markers. The general colour palette is reminiscent of the open ocean at twilight. The watches come with two strap options – a bi-material strap featuring a striking red stripe with the words Luna Rossa in white against a blue backdrop, and a second rubber strap in a uniform blue tone. The PAM01466 is available across all networks, while the PAM01543 is available exclusively in boutiques.
