Presenting the enthralling novelties by F.P. Journe
This year, with the release of its novelties including the Quantième Perpétuel, Octa Divine, Octa Lune, “Sonnerie Souveraine”, Repetition Souveraine and ÉLÉGANTE 48mm, F.P. Journe has proven once again its expertise in producing in-house components, movements, and complications for high horologic watches
The success of the high-end Swiss watch brand F.P. Journe is rooted from the vision of its genius founder, Francois-Paul Journe. Dubbed by the watch connoisseurs as a potential candidate for being the modern period Abraham-Louis Breguet, Francois-Paul Journe has made an enormous impact on the industry since the company's founding in 1999, winning prestigious awards year after year for his technologically sophisticated and distinctively designed watches. Under the philosophy “Invenit et Fecit”, meaning “He invented it and made it”, Francois-Paul Journe has led his team in crafting remarkable masterpieces including this year’s novelties.
Quantième Perpétuel
Presenting the ninth creation under the Octa collection, the new F.P. Journe Quantième Perpétuel (perpetual calendar) with instantaneous jump paves the way for a distinctive aesthetic when compared to all existing perpetual calendars. The Quantième Perpétuel displays the exact date by automatically taking into account the variable length of the months and leap-year cycle. It also displays the day, month and often the moon phases.
This stunning masterpiece offers perfect readability through an uncluttered dial with large apertures: Two for the day and month calendar, and a large date in two windows, a unique attribute of F.P. Journe watches. Meanwhile, the instantaneous jump mechanism is reinforced by an ingenious F.P. Journe system designed to accumulate energy and release it instantaneously when the date, day or month changes; and then slow it down at the end of its route.
The automatic winding movement of the Quantième Perpétuel by F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit is manufactured in 18K rose Gold, like that of all the brand’s precision chronometers. It is constructed on the basis of the exclusive Octa calibre 1300.3, with an identical calibre leaving room to insert all the complications of the Octa line.
With a limited production of nearly 900 pieces per year, the custom of F.P. Journe is to stop producing an existing calibre when creating a new model. Therefore, the Quantième Perpétuel replaces the Octa Calendrier with annual calendar, which had cease production in 2015 and had become a collector's piece.
The Quantième Perpétuel is available in Platinum or in 18K red Gold, in 40mm or 42mm diameter. The red or white Gold dial is fixed by a steel circle with a silver chapter ring.
Octa Divine
Another renowned timepiece is getting a new look. The Octa Divine is redesigned in a massive 42mm size. Elegant, uncluttered, and perfectly legible, it features the instantaneous large date in enlarged windows that stand out against the gold dial where the seconds disk display and the power reserve indicator are subtly delineated.
This stunning watch flaunts the elegant sapphire moon phase disk, the delicate blued steel hands, and the streamlined polished steel circle screwed to the dial that are all exclusive characteristics of F.P. Journe. A spark of whimsy is added by the different sized numerals of the hours ring, while red dots enliven the resolutely contemporary aesthetics of the dial.
The movement of the Octa Divine – the exclusive F.P. Journe calibre 1300.3 manufactured in 18 carat rose gold, is automatically wound and has a power reserve of over five days. The unidirectional winding of the exclusive off-centre F.P. Journe rotor in 22 carat red gold is achieved by a self-locking ball bearing system. Thus each movement, no matter how slight, is utilised for the optimal winding of the watch.
Cased up on leather strap, the new Octa Divine, available in the F.P. Journe Boutiques, also comes in a 40mm case, in platinum or in 18 carat red gold.
Octa Lune
Another stunning addition to F.P. Journe novelties this year is the new interpretation of this iconic Octa collection. In this re-interpreted model, the new Octa Lune displays a more visible reading of the time and a date twice as large.
Featuring the two dials made in 18K gold, this remarkable timepiece shows its first dial, off centre with embossed hour numbers surfaced with a diamond tool has been enlarged for a better reading of the time. Meanwhile, the second dial features a very large date in aperture at 11 o’clock, the retrograde power reserve indicator on a scale of 120 efficient hours (5 days) at 9h o’clock and the phases of the moon at 8 o’clock.
At the heart of this new Octa Lune resided a mechanical movement with automatic winding (calibre 1300.3) that is manufactured in 18K rose gold. Beating at a rate of 21,900 VpH, it is winded mono directionally by the F.P. Journe 22 K Gold rotor for an unequalled efficiency.
The Octa Lune is available in 40mm or 42mm case diameter, made in platinum PT 950 or in 18K red gold. It comes in a red or white gold and silver dial, fitted on leather strap with platinum or red gold bracelet.
“Sonnerie Souveraine”
The new “Sonnerie Souveraine” offers the full grand-strike clockwatch functionality and operational safety protected by such registered 10 patents. In this outstanding watch, a single mainspring provides enough energy for 24 hours of grand strike (96 full chimes in passing), without using the minute-repeater.
The chiming functions alone use up almost 60% of the main-spring’s energy, and in silence mode without the chime, the manual-winding movement is running for five days. Constructing this Caliber 1505 movement has been a permanent search to save energy in maximising mechanical efficiency. The result is a low-tension movement with gentle mechanisms that have to be very finely adjusted to ensure unfailing chimes 35,040 times a year.
Revealed through the sapphire crystal case-back, it flaunts 450 components that have been meticulously and patiently crafted by the F.P. Journe’s skilled watchmaker to form a reliable and resolutely innovative mechanism. The extra flat gongs of just three-tenths of a millimetre thick are mounted around the movement to increase space and produce a louder and clearer sound.
Housed in a 42mm diameter steel case, the “Sonnerie Souveraine” strikes the hours and quarters in passing; in petite sonnerie mode, it only strike the hours. It also strikes, on demand, the hours, quarters and minutes.
Repetition Souveraine
In a constant search to create timepieces which are both innovative and practical, F.P. Journe’s founder François-Paul Journe managed to achieve it with his first ultra-flat and extremely light Repetition Souveraine (Minute Repeater).
The simple aspect of its silver hob-nail pattern guilloche dial, identical to that of the Chronomètre Souverain, hardly let foresee the discrete window placed between 9 and 10 o’clock. It features the hammers striking the gongs at the hour, the quarters and the minutes, which can be activated by pressing a delicate indented slide on the left side of the case. This redevelopment has merited the application of two patents.
Its ultra flat movement in 18K gold with its case in steel provide an astonishing lightness to the watch for a weight of only 69.6 grams, strap included. It makes the Repetition Souveraine one of the weightless complications in the world. As with the Sonnerie Souveraine, the dulcet tones of the Repetition Souveraine reverberate from a 40mm diameter stainless steel case.
The manually wound movement, with base-plates and bridges in 18 carat rose gold, oscillates at 21,600v/h. Twin barrels work in parallel to deliver stable power for most of their 56-hour indicated reserve.
While the Repetition Souveraine Calibre No.1408 shares its technical heritage with the Chronomètre Souverain, the sheer complexity of the minute repeater demands nearly twice the number of components. Despite this, François-Paul Journe has managed to craft a movement with a height of just 4mm.
ÉLÉGANTE 48mm
The beauty and contemporary urban style of the renowned élégante watch by F.P. Journe receives a new size this year. Now available in 48mm, the élégante attracts more attention with its massive size yet without losing the elegance and pure aesthetics of the flat Tortue case for which the design has been trademarked®.
Made for the pleasure of oversized watch aficionados, the élégante still boasts its revolutionary electro-mechanical movement of the élégante, its very long autonomy and its exceptional comfort of use. The innovative electro-mechanical concept of the élégante movement has been developed through an eight-year research period undertaken by F.P. Journe.
Its calibre 1210 provides a great comfort of use and the performances of an electro-mechanical watch combining reliability and precision. The élégante features the only electro-mechanical movement conceived and created for the luxury market and offering a true vision of luxury.
This remarkable timepiece has a restart and automatic time setting when the watch is put back on. It also features a motion detector with inertia weight visible on the dial as well as stop second in time setting position when crown is pulled. The time is displayed in central hours and minutes with the small second at 6:00.
The luminescent dial of the élégante provides perfect legibility, by day and by night, and in the dark, the hands count off the hours, as in a shadow theatre. The élégante in 48mm further flaunts the finishing in Cotes de Genève, its engraved and decorated battery bridge, its pegs with polished rounded ends and its polished and bevelled screw heads. In its casing appears theblued hands, the inner dial in Superluminova and screwed outer dial.
Its modern look is complemented with the ergonomic shape of the dark blue rubber strap that perfectly embraces any wrist. It is completed with a deployant clasp in steel and titanium.
