Cartier gallops to success at Polo Challenge

The much anticipated annual Cartier International Dubai Polo Challenge was held at the Desert Palm Resort & Polo Club on the 21st of February, 2015

The glamorous event scheduled to appear yearly on Dubai’s sporting and social calendar, took place under the patronage and in the presence of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Among the famous personalities in attendance were also HRH Prince Abbas bin Ali bin Nayef of Jordan accompanied by his wife, HRH Princess Sima Al Abbas and HRH Princess Yasmine Bint Asem bin Nayef, Marques of Blandford George Spencer-Churchill, Ambassador of La Martina, American socialite Olivia Palermo and Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama as well as some of the most recognisedpolo players in the world.

The exclusive event celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, hosted six teams that battled it out for the coveted trophy in what is regarded as the ‘game of kings’ and is the most distinguished tournament of the year. In a thrilling final, the host team, the Desert Palm featuring riders Rashid Albwardy, son of Ali Albwardy who is considered the godfather of polo in the UAE, and team leader, Alan Meeker took the win by defeating the UAE Polo Team supported by HH Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum by an impressive score of 10-4.

Regrettably the morning’s sandstorm forced the cancellation of the subsidiary Desert Palm Trophy for the safety of the participating ponies, and as a result Cartier Red and Abu Dhabi agreed to tie for third place. Following the game, guests continued to enjoy the wonderful relaxed atmosphere in the elegant setting of the event that was hosted by the luxury Maison, Cartier. Spectators of the sport enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea at the social gathering of the season, where throughout the warm afternoon they were welcomed at the Cartier Villa that was beautifully transformed to exhibit the new Clé de Cartier watch collection that takes its name from the key-like rectangular crown.

To reset the date and time, the key needs to be turned as a lock might be opened. Its sizeable dimensions and elongated length make it easier to handle but functionality is not its sole asset.  The crown is adorned with a dazzling sapphire that is set flush with the metal surrounding it adding an eye-catching aesthetic to the exterior. The outstanding collection was presented for the first time following its global launch at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in January, and is available in all boutiques worldwide.
