Chopard, a Cannes favourite
Chopard continued to write the story of its love affair with cinema at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival in May 2024. Official partner to the Festival since 1998, the Maison occupied centre stage alongside film stars throughout the 12 days of the world’s greatest cinematic event. We bring you a round-up of Chopard’s glamour-filled days at the Cannes
Chopard and the stars
American actress and President of the Jury Greta Gerwig sparkled in a diamond necklace set in ethical 18-carat white gold; a ring in ethical 18-carat white gold featuring a diamond surrounded by brilliants; a diamond bracelet in ethical 18-carat white gold – all from the Haute Joaillerie Collection – at the premiere of “Furiosa: a Mad Max Saga” by George Miller.
French actress Eva Green shined in a pair of yellow diamond earrings in ethical 18-carat yellow gold as well as three rings featuring yellow and white diamonds, all from the Haute Joaillerie Collection, while Australian actor Chris Hemsworth selected an Alpine Eagle 41 Frozen in ethical 18-carat white gold set with diamonds and sapphires, as well as diamond cufflinks set in ethical 18-carat white gold. French model Cindy Bruna appeared on the red carpet wearing a pair of diamond earrings; two diamond sautoirs as well as four diamond rings, all from the Haute Joaillerie Collection for the same event.
Chopard Loves Cinema
Each year, as official partner, Chopard creates all the awards presented by the Festival, including the most prestigious of them all: the Palme d’or. This absolute distinction is awarded to the cinematic gem chosen by the jury.
The Palme d’or
The Palme d’or vibrantly symbolises the historical partnership between the Geneva-based Maison and the Cannes Film Festival. The love affair between Chopard and cinema began in 1997, when Caroline Scheufele crossed paths with Pierre Viot, then President of the Cannes Festival. Caroline Scheufele was asked to redesign the Palme. Twenty-seven years later, the famous branch has been reissued in its original form and placed on a rock crystal base featuring inclusions that render it unique, shaped like an emerald-cut diamond.
Red Carpet Collection
The Palme d’or is crafted in the same workshops as the stunning Red Carpet Collection comprising a number of Haute Joaillerie masterpieces corresponding to the age of the Cannes Film Festival. Designed by Caroline Scheufele to adorn actresses on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival, the Red Carpet Collection has established itself over the decades as the most eagerly awaited event in the Maison’s jewellery calendar.
This year, 77 creations inspired by the world of Fairy Tales – ‘Contes de Fées’ – enchanted La Croisette. An array of moving and tender, amusing and quirky, consistently precious creations exudes supreme elegance in a world of dreamy wonderment. Orchestrating the encounter between creative designs and exceptional gemstones, this fairytale jewellery was made available to actresses for the famous staircase ritual at the Palais des Festivals.
Trophée Chopard 2024
As part of its attachment to cinema at all levels, the Maison shows its support for the rising generation of international cinema through the Trophée Chopard. During an official dinner of the Festival, a prestigious godmother hands an actress and an actor who have a promising start of their career the Trophée Chopard, a distinction that has consistently heralded brilliant careers ever since its creation in 2001. Actress, producer, and NYT best-selling author Demi Moore was the Godmother of the Trophée Chopard presented this year. The 24th edition of the Trophée Chopard took place on May 17 at a ceremony notably attended by its Godmother Demi Moore, Caroline Scheufele, Iris Knobloch (President of the Festival) and Thierry Frémaux (General Delegate of the Festival).
The Académie du Trophée Chopard voted actress Sophie Wilde and actor Mike Faist as the Laureates of the 2024 edition. Sophie Wilde most recently appeared on screens as the lead in “Talk to Me”. Labelled the ‘scariest horror movie of 2023’, the project quickly became A24’s highest grossing film of the year. Sophie Wilde won the AACTA for ‘Best Female Lead’ for her performance, in a category that included Cate Blanchett and Sarah Snook, and was nominated for BAFTA’s EE Rising Star Award.
Mike Faist can most recently be seen in Luca Guadagnino’s tennis drama “Challengers” alongside Zendaya and Josh O’Connor. He will also appear this summer in “The Bikeriders”, a film directed by Jeff Nichols starring Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, and Norman Reedus.
And because the love of cinema deserves to be celebrated, Caroline Scheufele hosted the traditional Chopard soirée. Held on May 21, the ‘Once Upon a Time’ evening was a host of surprises in a fairytale setting that served as the backdrop for presenting creations from the Red Carpet Collection and Caroline’s Couture. Throughout the Cannes fortnight, Chopard hosted its guests in the renowned Chopard Rooftop on the 7th floor of the Hôtel Martinez.
