Chopard times a powerful first round at Silverstone
On the 12th of April 2015, Chopard started its second year as official timing partner of Porsche Motorsport
The much anticipated event took place at the Silverstone race-track in England, where a successful opening of the FIA World Endurance Championship season got underway. The car Manufacture began the season with strong expectations when the opening round featured two Porsche 919 Hybrid cars campaigning for victory on the renowned circuit in the British Midlands.
The two Porsches started first and second, where Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber were at the wheel of car number 17 – Their average lap time of 1:39 minutes secured them the first pole position, whereas car number 18 driven by Romain Dumas and Neel Jani reached the second position on the starting grid. Mark Webber was leading the race when a gearbox problem forced him to stop his Porsche 919 Hybrid. Dumas managed to defend his position until his first stop after 24 laps. Dumas took over the lead from his team mates, but later in the race had to concede the win by 4.6 seconds after a breath-taking battle. Sharing the number 18 car, Dumas’ team finished second in what was a thrilling race.
To celebrate this prestigious partnership and Chopard’s longstanding commitment to automotive sports, a special timepiece inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid car was unveiled that is a limited edition of 919 pieces. Equipped with an in-house movement and chronometer certified by the COSC, the timepiece has also been through rigorous testing under extreme conditions (speed, temperature, endurance racing) to guarantee a perfect exactitude of the watch.
