Churchill’s ‘Victory Watch’ sells eight times than low estimate
In an auction that took place at Sotheby’s in London on the 22nd of September, 2015, the unique Victory Watch that was commissioned for Sir Winston Churchill was sold for £485,000, eight times higher than its low estimate. The exceptional timepiece, designed by Louis Cottier in collaboration with the distinguished manufacturer Agassiz and Co., was among the four watches created after the Second World War for the Allied Leaders including Charles de Gaulle, Joseph Stalin, and Harry Truman. The watch features a distinctive enamel dial showing St. George slaying the dragon, with a trident as the hour hand, and engraving on the caseback of V’ for Victory with a personalised dedication: “1939 – Prime Minister Winston Spencer Churchill – 1945”.
