Eagles and Divers from Bell & Ross
The 2018 collection from watchmaker Bell & Ross has built on the success of their watches launched in 2016 – the BR S Diamond Eagle women’s watch – and the BR03-92 Diver launched in 2007. While the BR S Diamond Eagle is a beautifully feminine and elegant watch, the diving watches have been developed to be measurement tools perfectly capable of contending with the ocean depths
BR S Diamond Eagle collection
The dials on the models in the BR S Diamond Eagle collection are inspired by the celestial sphere, and are covered with a host of sparkling diamonds that twinkle like stars in the night sky. The new family features four colours – blue, white, grey and pink – that evoke the heavens. This women’s model was unveiled in 2016. For this elegant model, the brand used the Aquila, or Eagle Constellation, one of the brightest clusters of stars in the Milky Way.
This new family is available in four colours: blue, grey, white and pink. Bell & Ross’ artistic directors chose midnight blue, the distinguishing colour of the Milky Way. Grey represents the moon. White evokes fluffy cumulonimbus or cirrus clouds. And pink, which graces the sky at sunrise and sunset, recalls the supernovae, the mysterious stars that produce a pink halo when they explode.
Each of these stylish colours comes in two distinct versions: the “simple” variant, whose delicate “Constellation” dial is adorned with a host of tiny diamonds; and the “diamond” variant, a more precious version featuring a bezel set with 66 diamonds that makes it a piece of jewellery.
The case of this watch features the iconic “circle within a square”, shape conceived by Bell & Ross for the unique BR01, and measures a decidedly feminine 39 mm. The collection’s alluring variants are of steel or white ceramic. The back of the watch features a stylised depiction of the Aquila constellation.
The sunray finish on the dial creates an illusion of depth, evoking the infinite expansion of the sky and space. The dial is set with seven diamonds, positioned as in the Aquila constellation. The indices are very subtly faceted, and the delicate hands feature a highly refined design. The result is a timepiece that marries femininity with the finesse of the most sought-after horological finishes. The white version has a gloss dial.
There are two types of bracelets to match the dial colour; the blue and pink versions have an alligator strap while the grey and white variants feature satin-finished calfskin. Bell & Ross also offers a metal Milanese mesh bracelet made from very fine flexible steel strips polished on both sides. The white version can be fitted with a bracelet made from ceramic mesh on rubber.
BR03-92 Diver watches
The BR03-92 Diver made a strong impression on the diving world with its iconic lines, and is the starting point of an entire collection, which is now expanding to include two new versions, the BR03-92 Diver Blue and the BR03-92 Diver Bronze.
BR03-92 Diver Blue
Symbolising the sea, blue was chosen as the colour of this new version of the BR03-92 Diver. Beyond its blue dial, rubber strap and aluminium insert on the bezel, this BR03-92 Diver Blue version aims to achieve maximum legibility with indices coated in White SuperLuminova and a yellow hour hand. Underwater, the colours vanish one after the other due to the loss of light intensity. The yellow hour hand will therefore fade away to give precedence to the minute hand, which must be visible to ensure the diver’s safety. This new colour combination, paired with the emblematic square shape of the BR collections, gives the BR03-92 Diver Blue a sporty yet attractive aesthetic.
BR03 – 92 Diver Bronze
A limited edition of 999 pieces, the second new addition to the BR03-92 Diver collection evokes the historical roots of underwater exploration. Its case and bezel are made from bronze, a material used in the past for diving helmets. Although inalterable, bronze can also form a patina with time depending on its environment, gaining a unique shade over the years.
This allusion to the origins of underwater adventures can be seen on the case-back thanks to an engraving of a diver. The aged leather strap confirms the watch’s authentic vintage spirit, but can be replaced with a rubber strap for use while diving.
Given their military associations, Bell & Ross watches have always met the strictest requirements. Dedicated to aeronautics, the navy or special units, every Bell & Ross watch is designed in accordance with its own, often extreme, environment.
In the diving world, the BR03-92 Diver Blue and BR03-92 Diver Bronze, which are legible, accurate and reliable, are efficient companions to divers under any conditions and meet the specific requirements of the ISO 6425 standard for underwater use, in addition to their Bell & Ross design.
