During the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2016, the premium Italian jewellery brand Emilia Carolina Ricci unveiled its partnership with Ali Bin Ali, one of the highly distinguished and largest luxury retail groups in the region, to craft exclusive pieces of jewellery dedicated to the discerning and sophisticated taste of the Middle Eastern clientele
Having been born from a family of jewellers, Emilia Carolina Ricci is well-aware of the ins and outs of the business. Her early youth was spent in visiting the office of her father, Lorenzo Ricci, the owner of RCM Jewellery, one of the best known brands in high-end Italian jewellery, where she was introduced to the beautiful world of jewellery. Since then, the charming lady grew up with the passion to share such beauty to the world.
This year, upon the launch of her eponymous brand, Emilia Carolina Ricci, just like her father, has begun her venture into the glittering and dazzling jewellery industry. In an exclusive interview during her attendance at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2016, the Founder of the Emilia Carolina Ricci jewellery brand shared with “Day & Night” magazine how the brand follows the unique philosophy of RCM, and how it commits to becoming independent at the right time.
First of all, can you tell us more about the new jewellery brand?
Emilia Carolina Ricci is a new brand of fashionable and wearable luxury jewellery that we launched exclusively for Qatar’s Ali Bin Ali Group. It was born out of the idea to bring something new and fresh in the market by crafting unique pieces using unusual mix of materials. Our initial collections include cufflinks for men and two kinds of bracelets for women. We plan to expand the line with fresh designs but at same time we will keep the classic elegance of jewellery making and infuse the finest Italian craftsmanship to ensure that we create high end products.
What are the attributes that make the Emilia Carolina Ricci brand fresh and new?With this product line, we bring back the colours in jewellery. The brand’s collections would present a colourful line that will allow customers to choose from according to their preference and personality. Moreover, Emilia Carolina Ricci is new in the sense that it mixes together the unusual materials such as crocodile leather, diamonds and gold. With the use of crocodile leather, we also incorporate fashion into the brand which is something that would appeal to the Qatari customers who are sophisticated and well-informed about jewellery.
Where do you get the inspirations that influenced your fashionable designs?
I think you can get inspiration everywhere. Just go out of the road, and I see what people wear and what trends are in. Also, I take a lot of inspiration from my beautiful country of Italy. Our culture, or landscapes, and our trendsetting fashion help in inspiring my ideas.
How do you see Emilia Carolina Ricci growing in the Middle East region?
I look forward to the brand in becoming independent and trendsetter. As of now, I am very fortunate to have amazing partners like the Ali Bin Ali Group that supported the idea behind Emilia Carolina Ricci. The collections that we’re launching are exclusive to them. I am pleased that as entrepreneurs that understand the market quite well, they are confident in supporting us. Also, I am blessed to be born out of a family that have the expertise in this industry as well as a family that encourages my vision of challenging the jewellery world by creating something new.
How did you get interested in jewellery?
I have always felt that beauty will save the world. This is a famous philosophy which I really believe in. So I feel very lucky because I had the chance to experience one side of beauty since I was a young girl. I remember going to the office of my father, and play with the stones. Back then, he used to show me the designs and ask for my opinion – what I like, what I don’t like, what would I modify. He would challenge my taste, and because of that I developed my independent idea about what taste or preference should be. I believe that when one had the chance to experience what I had when I was young, then it’s pretty natural to fall in love with jewellery. It is indeed a huge privilege to be in this industry and bring some beauty to the world.
Is the Emilia Carolina Ricci a part of your father’s company, the RCM Jewellery?
It is under the umbrella of the RCM Jewellery at the moment but it is going to become more and more independent. We, of course, produce our jewellery according to the same expertise, the same high quality, and the same craftsmanship that RCM collections are known for. And, one of the core values that we follow from RCM is the essence of uniqueness. Our products are going to be unique pieces that are crafted in utmost luxury of Italian tradition in hand-made jewellery.
What is special in Italian craftsmanship?
It is often mentioned that Italian craftsmanship is one of the finest. I believe it is because we live in a country that has beauty all around, so basically you are obliged to transmit some of the beauty. Moreover, we have a huge population of well-trained and highly skilled artisans that learned their craft from generations after generations. We also have the tradition of hand-made craftsmanship that we uphold and pass on centuries after centuries. Italian craftsmanship is definitely about these artisans, their knowledge, expertise and dedication to producing hand-made products with high quality materials. All these beauty and high sense of aesthetics sum up the special character of Italian craftsmanship which is present in all Emilia Carolina Ricci jewels.
