Jaquet Droz honours Geneva with The Bird Repeater
Geneva is home to a variety of luxury watch-makers that trade globally. Picturesquely located at the westernmost tip of Lake Geneva, it’s a cultural and historical hub for travellers and horologists
Jaquet Droz launched The Bird Repeater Geneva, an exceptional limited edition timepiece that honours Switzerland’s second most populous city, Geneva, which housed the brand’s first clock manufacturing workshop in 1784.
The Bird Repeater Geneva intertwines pastoral and urban themes to form a glorious background that unites the landmarks of the Swiss city on a gleaming mother-of-pearl dial. Miniature versions of the Lake Geneva, its famous Jet d’Eau fountain, the lighthouse; Le Phare des Pâquis, and the silhouette of the Salève, the pre-Alpine peak considered the city’s “balcony” are visible behind the focal feature of the dial; the family of goldfinches.
The hand-sculpted gold birds gather around an egg in the middle of the nest. The meticulously rendered details of the straw nest, the vivacity of the colours and the attention to the eyes are a testament to the illustrative talent of the La Chaux-de-Fonds artisans.
The animated scene contrasts with the simplicity of the hours and minutes sub-dial, off-centred at 12 o’clock and created from a disc of black onyx on which float two red-gold hands. The 47mm 18-carat red-gold case has a thickness of 18.70mm and is completed with a black alligator leather strap. The Jaquet Droz RMA88 hand-winding mechanical movement, beats at the heart of the Bird Repeater Geneva and boasts a power reserve of 48 hours once fully wound.
