OMEGA pays homage to Venice with new Seamaster edition
OMEGA, which has retraced its Italian heritage for the new Seamaster “Edizione Venezia”, has announced that it will be sold exclusively in the famous Italian city
In the late 1950s, Venice provided the inspiration for one of OMEGA’s most famous symbols, when an OMEGA designer on a visit to Venice was inspired by the famous gondolas and the beautifully sculpted representations of Neptune’s Seahorse on each side. At that time, the OMEGA Seamaster was a relatively new collection that was in need of an iconic emblem, which it found in the Seahorse.
The emblem began appearing on the Seamaster collection from 1957. Today, the domed opaline-silvery dial of the Venice edition draws on Venetian architecture, and features 12 applied indexes as well as elegant “leaf” style hands. The Venice theme extends to the spherical crown, which follows the shape of the dome of St Mark’s Basilica.
The famous Seahorse medallion has been laser engraved on sapphire crystal case back and the words “SEAMASTER” and “Edizione Venezia”, as well as a transferred pattern that closely resembles the intricate detail of Venice’s own flag, appear on the inner case back ring.
Two different styles of the Seamaster “Edizione Venezia” are now available to customers – either with an 18K Sedna gold case on a brown leather strap, or a stainless steel version on a black leather strap. Both versions come in their own special black-lacquered presentation box, lined in burgundy velour reminiscent of a Venetian gondola’s interior.
