Devised from the outset to evolve in response to new offerings from the Panerai and BRABUS portfolios, the collaboration’s latest watch is a companion to a new entry in the BRABUS Marine Shadow series of luxury powerboats, characterised by a stealth green hue
Last year, Panerai, a legacy watch brand that merges Swiss watchmaking finesse and artful Italian design, and BRABUS, a world-renowned luxury mobility brand out of the heart of Germany’s Ruhr region, forged a partnership rooted in their shared ambition to redefine the limits of technology, style and performance in their respective spheres. United by their commitment to crafting instruments for dynamic, iconoclastic explorers and a profound reverence for the sea, the two brands created a series of watches designed to merge the best of each – forming a specific identity of their own.
With state-of-the-art tech and sophisticated, military-inspired styling, the Submersible S BRABUS Verde Militare Edition takes the next step in a collaboration that brings together horology and high-performance day boating. The Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Verde Militare Edition shares a range of key features introduced by its predecessors but conquers a league of its own through the use of new materials and a completely reimagined signature design.
Available in a limited edition of 200 pieces, the Submersible S BRABUS Verde Militare Edition features a 47mm case composed of Carbotech, a composite material first used in watchmaking by Panerai. Lighter than steel or titanium and resistant to corrosion, Carbotech is strong and adaptable, making it an easy-to-wear choice for modern heroes facing harsh conditions. Accents in military green also distinguish this reference; the subtle hue appears on the hands, rehaut, rubberised crown, am/pm indicator and the small seconds sub-dial. Meanwhile, the presence of the BRABUS logo on the movement lever and loop affirms the collaborative character of the watch.
The Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Verde Militare Edition is powered by a movement established on the foundation of the P.4000 calibre, the first automatic movement with an off-centre micro-rotor developed by the Panerai Manufacture at Neuchâtel. Its descendent, Caliber P. 4001/S, is an automatic, skeletonised movement featuring a three-day power reserve whose indicator appears on the reverse of the case. Furthermore, cutting-edge technology permits utmost visibility of the skeletonised movement, unobstructed by the date disc, which is discernible only through the window at 3 o’clock, thanks to the patented polarised date display.
The 47mm watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel to calculate immersion time and GMT function, while the one-piece, off-centre oscillating weight permits bi-directional winding, whereby the two spring barrels efficiently wind the watch during wear. With its skeletonised structure – the bridges and plates have been winnowed to their barest elements to expose the workings of the movement—the watch is notably lightweight. In addition, the stop balance wheel and seconds reset devices enable the time to synchronise with a reference time signal.
Water-resistant to 30 bar (~ 300 meters), the Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Verde Militare Edition features two straps, a black bi-material version composed of calf leather melded with a rubber base and a second in military green rubber. Also included is a screwdriver for removing the buckle.
