Parmigiani Fleurier adds to Tonda PF collection
The Tonda PF is an entirely new collection of timepieces within the Tonda family, featuring Parmigiani Fleurier’s most distinctive complications from the outset. Everywhere the eye lands on a Tonda PF, there’s a particular texture, form, detail to be seen and enjoyed – a mature, sartorial approach to watchmaking, where cloth is replaced by metal and weaving by dial pattern. The Tonda PF family sees new additions with the Tonda PF Skeleton Platinum, Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date
Tonda PF Skeleton Platinum
The Tonda PF Skeleton Platinum owes much of its allure to the movement’s openwork, which brings light into the very heart of the PF 777 calibre. This delicate latticework, meticulously hand-bevelled, draws the purist’s eye to the beating centre of the mechanism. To ensure maximum efficiency, the platinum oscillating weight bears the brand logo embedded in sapphire crystal and is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back. The open-worked barrel reveals the slow contractions and relaxations of the mainspring driving its oscillator at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The striking contrast between the sparkling light of the platinum and the ALD Milano Blue surfaces of the skeletonised movement, finely treated in satin and sandblasted finishes, and its sharp angles, carefully hand-polished, visually enriches the whole. The delicately suspended hour markers add a spacious dimension, while the two open-worked hands sweep across the dial and are set against an open background that extends to the flange. The uncluttered elegance of the 8.5mm-thick Tonda PF Skeleton Platinum highlights the knurled, polished bezel that catches both the light and the eye, but also the line running from the middle that borders the outside of the bracelet with a slight edge, creating a graphic, taut silhouette of absolute fluidity.
Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date
Stripping the watch of everything superfluous, the timepiece features tight, integrated lines, superlative finishes, and an automatic micro-rotor movement, in a clean, minimalist aesthetic, combining high-end finishes with exceptional watchmaking. Parmigiani Fleurier has given the “Golden Siena” dial time indications but no date window. The dial shade with moiré effects is directly inspired by the rich “sienna” palette, celebrating the subtle nuances and naturalness of the earth. The Grain d’Orge signature of Parmigiani Fleurier dials is a classic of Haute Horlogerie. Very small in size, thus requiring extreme visual attention to appreciate its fine and delicate texture, the dial plate’s guilloché pattern provides a large surface area for the watch hands. The case and bracelet design embellish the dial, concealing the 3.07mm-thick PF703 calibre with automatic winding by micro-rotor decorated with elegant finesse. The micro-rotor option, complex in its creation, remains the prerogative of top-flight watch brands. This small oscillating weight in platinum ensures high density and mobility and is fully integrated into the thickness of the movement, unlike a classic, half-moon-shaped rotor, which would have covered it. This more sophisticated construction allows a significant reduction in the thickness of the watch, making it just 7.8mm on the wrist.
