Perpétuel with Luca Soprana pays homage to Derek Pratt

Perpétuel has launched a distinctive range of collectible limited-edition timepieces crafted by watchmaker Luca Soprana, with the full support of the late Derek Pratt’s family

Considered one of the 20th century’s most talented watchmakers, the late Derek Pratt began his horological journey by entering the National College of Horology as a Smiths apprentice in 1956. Derek was originally sent by the company to Switzerland, where he worked on the development of a clock to be used in black boxes for aircraft. In addition to producing small precision parts for other watchmakers, Derek became Urban Jürgensen’s chief watchmaker and – inspired by his hero Breguet – produced a fine series of pocket watches with exquisite dials.

Since Derek’s death in 2009, his legacy has been upheld, mainly thanks to the unwavering passion of Luca Soprana, who has collaborated with some of the most prestigious brands in the industry, including Patek Philippe, Vianney Halter, and many other leading names in the industry. The partnership between Perpétuel and Luca Soprana, together with the Derek Pratt family, will feature acquirable timepieces representing a unique design exclusive to Perpétuel.

The timepiece – limited to 7 pieces –  is housed in a 41.64mm case of 316L steel, with a sapphire crystal caseback. The salmon-coloured dial features applied Eastern Arabic numerals in stainless steel with the small seconds sub-dial at six o’clock. The in-house movement Caliber DP07 boasts a 36-hour power reserve.
