Tiffany & Co. debuts Airways Clock

Global luxury jeweller Tiffany & Co. has unveiled the Tiffany Airways mechanical clock, the latest horological masterpiece launching in the House’s Time Objects collection

Crafted in iconic Tiffany Blue stainless steel, the Tiffany Airways clock is inspired by 1930s aviation and the spirit of flight. The new clock embodies Tiffany’s commitment to discovery and innovation, while its design celebrates the House’s heritage and captures the whimsical ethos that defines many of Tiffany’s creations.

Designed to resemble an airplane’s structure, the clock’s openwork body showcases its skeletonised movement, prominently featuring the escapement in the cockpit. Hours and minutes are elegantly displayed on large stainless steel disks at the plane’s nose, with the cockpit’s cage culminating in an arrow-shaped display that points to the current time. The stainless steel propeller attached to the nose spins at a touch.

The plane features functional wheels, mimicking conventional landing gear, to balance the piece. At the front of the design, behind the propeller, the plane’s engine radiator acts as the “crown” and is used to power the movement. A clockwise rotation of the openwork engine moves the stainless steel discs forward to the set the time, while a counterclockwise rotation winds the movement, powering the movement like an airplane engine.

The construction of the clock allows it to be displayed multiple ways – either showcased independently or mounted on a stainless steel stand. The plane creates the illusion of taking flight when secured to the stand through an innovative clasp. Powered by a manual winding mechanism, the clock enjoys a power reserve of 8 days.
