Two Hublot ambassadors create historic golden records at Rio
Horlogerie Maison Hublot proudly congratulates two of its illustrious ambassadors – who have created legendary records at the Rio 2016 edition of the Olympic Games
Legendary athlete Usain Bolt and golf champion Justin Rose reached new heights in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 edition of the Olympics. Both of these iconic sportsmen are part of the illustrious group of Hublot’s ambassadors. Hublot extended its warmest congratulations to its ambassadors.
Usain Bolt
Multiple record-holder and Hublot ambassador Usain Bolt entered the sports hall of fame with an illustrious performance in Rio by winning three new gold medals; the first ever triple treble.
The Jamaican athlete has long been a living legend. The three medals he won at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing had already bestowed on him the status of the most brilliant athlete in history, and the only sportsperson ever to have won the triple treble. All he needed was the Olympic triple treble to round off his astonishing career.
Bolt confirmed his unrivalled status by pulling off a performance that won him his third triple Olympic gold. Following on from Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, Bolt attained the much sought-after and exclusive triple treble – three gold medals in 100 m, 200 m and 4×100 m at three consecutive Olympiads. A very happy coincidence saw the champion celebrate his 30th birthday on the last day of the Games.
Nine times Olympic champion and 11 times World Champion, Bolt is the only sportsperson in the world to have won the triple treble. Celebrating this great athlete, Hublot launched the new Big Bang Unico Usain Bolt on the day of the Opening ceremony of the games.
Released in two limited editions – a 45 mm Big Bang case cut from 3N yellow gold or black ceramic – the seconds of its chronograph flyback count the time under the impulse of a hand shaped like a lightning bolt. The design features touches of green and gold, and a silhouette of the Jamaican flag adorns the strap. A lightning bolt silhouette is emblazoned across the sapphire case back that covers the in-house UNICO movement. A symbol of victory for the champions.
Justin Rose
Justin Rose recorded the first hole in one in the history of Olympic golf, and also took gold in golf’s first return to the Games since 1904. British talent Justin Rose will now always be associated with the return of golf to the Olympic Games after more than a century of absence.
During the first qualifying round in Rio, Justin made the first hole in one in Olympic Games history. On the par-3 fourth hole, a 7 iron from 172 metres wrote him into the history books. A Hublot ambassador since 2015, Justin Rose is one of the world’s top 10 players; a winner of seven PGA Tour titles, holder of nine victories in the European Tour and Major champion in 2013, Justin is a prominent member of Team Europe.
