Zenith CP-2 Cairelli edition sets a new record

Nicknamed the “Cairelli” – after the Rome-based retailer who sold around 2,500 of these watches intended for the Italian Navy – this watch is a hot item on the vintage market. As further proof of its popularity, the watch set a new record when it went under the hammer for more than CHF 62,500 – more than tripling its initial upper estimate of CHF 20,000 – at the “Start, Stop, Reset” auction by Phillips in Geneva. A brand well-known to the watchmaking cognoscenti all over the world for more than 150 years, Zenith has won 2,333 chronometry prizes in the century and a half of its existence.
